Arshia is a practicing Rheumatologist. She is passionate, not only about her work, but also about music and youth empowerment.

Arshia and her husband (also a physician) have been involved with the Sacramento Youth Symphony from 2012 to 2021, as parents, since their two daughters have been members of the Sacramento Youth Symphony, (one, playing Piano and French Horn, and the other playing Violin and Saxophone) and are both now alumni of the Sacramento Youth Symphony.  Arshia was also fortunate in having the opportunity to chaperone her daughter and the Sacramento Youth Symphony on their Eastern Europe Tour in 2018!

Originally from Bangladesh, Arshia grew up in different parts of the world, including the USA, and Egypt, exposing her to a myriad of cultures from an early age.  Music has been an integral part of her life since childhood, playing the Piano and Flute. During her school years she was also a member of a Recorder chamber music group (and played all 5 recorder types- sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and base).  Arshia has found that the love of music is shared by children/youth from all different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life, bringing them closer together, breaking barriers and creating bridges, as well as providing them with inner strength, confidence and discipline.

After high school, Arshia went to medical school in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and then returned to the USA and completed her Internship/Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health Systems, Philadelphia.  She then worked as an Internist for 5 years in Portland, Oregon before she and her family moved to the Sacramento region in 2005. She completed her Fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of California, Davis.  Arshia now works as a Rheumatologist for The Permanente Medical Group in Roseville.  She is also a Volunteer Clinical Faculty for the Department of Rheumatology at UC Davis and enjoys teaching medical students, residents and fellows.  She is involved with several different medical groups/associations and subcommittees.

She enjoys traveling, reading, and going to music concerts/Broadway shows.

After her younger daughter graduated from High School in 2021 and headed off to college, Arshia realized how much music and the Sacramento Youth Symphony have shaped her children’s lives throughout their school years. Thus she feels privileged to continue her involvement with the Sacramento Youth Symphony, now as a Board Member, and hopes to help this phenomenal organization continue to bring music to more youth in the greater Sacramento region and enrich their lives!
