Full Orchestras, Symphonic Wind Ensembles and String Orchestras

At the Sacramento Youth Symphony our goal is to educate and advance the musical skills of youth, throughout the entire Sacramento Valley community, in ways that engage, challenge, and inspire them to reach their highest potential.  We achieve this by offering several levels of string, wind, and orchestral ensembles, allowing us to accommodate intermediate and advanced players as well as less seasoned youth musicians with at least one year of experience.  As Sacramento Youth Symphony members, students learn from our talented music educators and conductors, gain exposure to music history and theory, and perform challenging orchestral works in several exciting concerts every year. They may also have the opportunity to tour locally or internationally, depending on their ensemble.

Sacramento Youth Symphony
Summer Chamber Music Workshop

SYS is proud to offer the Summer Chamber Music Workshop, under the direction of Claire Tatman. Founded in 1990, the summer session of the Sacramento Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Workshop offers an intensive week of ensemble playing, introducing young musicians, ages 7-12 (Week 1) and 11-19 (Week 2), to chamber music literature and rehearsal techniques. This program offers individualized coaching with professionals in the performance field, as well as a recital including all participants at the conclusion of the Workshop.

SYS can help you find the perfect ensemble for your event. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or private party, we can make your next celebration elegant and memorable, without breaking the bank.  Please call our office for details.  Note: please allow as much advance advance notice as possible.

Our groups are also available for school enrichment presentations.

The SYS Board’s vision is that “our programs nourish every child, in our communities with exposure to music; bringing joy, education, skills and the thrill of discovering rich and valuable opportunities available through engagement with music.”  This vision has led to the development of Overture Strings, a free music education program offered to under-served elementary schools in our area.
