Derek Marsee

Derek decided to serve on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Youth Symphony because he believes in its mission and in the ability of music to shape young people's lives.  Growing up, Derek played the cello, and some of his best memories of childhood center around his activities in the Youth Symphony in Dayton, Ohio.  Seeing the decline of music programs that has occurred in many schools systems, Derek wants to help the Sacramento Youth Symphony thrive and fill this important void in young people's lives.

Derek moved to Sacramento with his wife and two children in 2010 after finishing his residency and fellowships at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.  He is a practicing pathologist in Sacramento and has been the President of his group, Diagnostic Pathology Medical Group (DPMG), since 2012.  In addition, Derek serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the California Society of Pathologists and is currently its Vice President.  He is also an active volunteer at his church.

Derek's personal interests include international travel with his family, reading, gardening (including raising a small number of chickens), and fixing things around the house.  His two children are both involved in the Sacramento Youth Symphony.
