Executive Director – Full-Time

Job Duties and Qualifications

 

SUMMARY:

Sacramento Youth Symphony (SYS), the foremost youth orchestral organization in the Sacramento region for over sixty-two years, has an opening for a full-time Executive Director position. Reporting to the Board of Directors (Board), the Executive Director shall be an engaging, organized, creative, data-driven visionary leader who has a demonstrated record of successful collaboration with organization stakeholders.  The Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for staff, programs, and execution of the SYS mission. Other key duties include personnel and resource management, fundraising, grant writing, marketing, community outreach, and program evaluation.

 

DUTIES:

Identifies, cultivates and solicits major and planned gifts and relationships with foundations, corporations, individual donors, alumni and community organizations.  Acts as an Ambassador for the SYS in our community by attending public meetings, city council meetings, and civic functions to tell the SYS story and gain public recognition and financial support. Monitors activities, identifies and corrects problems related to areas such as funding, expenditures and related matters. Negotiates all SYS contracts and employment agreements. Manages organization’s budget and financial performance. Approves SYS expenditures. Manages office operations and administrative staff.  Oversees maintenance of organization’s corporate records and documentation. Oversees volunteer and professional relationships in support of SYS events, major planned gifts, fundraising activities, and annual campaigns. Oversees the development, publication, and/or distribution of marketing materials for the SYS, including social media, print, radio, and television. Schedules, plans and attends (reporting, as appropriate) all regular staff and board meetings. Some evenings and weekends required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Evidence of passion for youth education and development through music and the performing arts. Experience in personnel and budget management, fundraising, grant writing, leading the process of on-going strategic planning, problem solving and working among culturally and ethnically diverse communities. Experience in resource development and program evaluation. Strong public speaking, writing, and public relations skills. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

 

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of three years non-profit organization experience is preferred. Knowledge and training in classical music is a plus.

 

SALARY

Depending upon the applicant’s level of experience and other factors, the salary range will be $55,000 to $65,000.
